The Pot Dilemma
May 27, 2010
So my friend Josh brought up the illegality of pot and I thought was a good topic I’ve been meaning to talk about for a while.
I don’t care if people do drugs. Pot, heroin, meth, ecstasy, cocaine, whatever. As long as you are not interfering with the lives of others,
it’s none of my business. Now, I think the same laws should apply as for alcohol, though how you would determine how high someone is would have to be devised. My point is, it’s your life, whatever you need to do to cope is up to you.
Not to take the old adage literally but, for some people it’s religion. And that’s fine, if it gets you through the day and allows you to enjoy your life more. No one can tell anyone else how they should live their life, finding it out for yourself is one of the most intriguing features of being alive.
Would you rather have someone kill themselves or be a drug addict but alive. It’s an interesting question to ask yourself and the answer might even teach you something about yourself, whether you are happy knowing or not, is another matter.

The unfortunate part of the “as long as you’re not interfering with the lives of others” qualification is that it’s not possible to do drugs without negatively affecting the lives of others. People make mistakes all the time when drunk and people’s feelings get hurt–same goes with pot (sure, the person who’s high may be happy while they’re high, but have you ever seen what it does to their anxiety tolerance when *not* high? hoo boy).
So, yeah… if you assume that it can be done, sure, drugs can be all right. But I think the reality is that it always proves negatively.

I disagree. I know many people who smoke pot and it doesn’t effect their lives or anyone around them. It is the same as drinking, moderation and responsibility is everything. I think there is no difference between “drugs” and alcohol.

Yeah, no, I never said there was a difference between drugs and alcohol–alcohol is classified as a drug, just as nicotine is. I’m sorry, dude, but I’ve never met anyone who can smoke pot regularly and still maintain a kind, stable personality. They always go nuts in the end. Occasional is fine I guess–but I got the gist from this post that you were talking about habitual behavior.

That’s fine, but I know many people who habitually smoke the occasional weed and they are fine and no harm has come from it.

I’m impressed! You’ve managed the almost ipmosslibe.
